We offer discretion in both buying and selling. Our specialists and network of external experts provide scholarly research and art market knowledge to aid marketing and improve the value of works. Since our foundation, the company has helped collectors and institutions build exceptional and personal collections. As a result, we have long-established relationships with museums and national institutions around the world.

We offer advice on the growth of private collections, as well as care and cataloguing of works they contain. In addition, we undertake condition reports and valuations for the purpose of sale, insurance, probate, inheritance tax for individuals and estates.

We can execute bids on behalf of clients as well as monitor and advise on pictures in auction. In addition, we can provide surveys of artists’ auction and gallery performance to indicate current market positions.

From our Edinburgh studio, we provide painting and frame conservation as well as framing using museum-quality materials and practice. We also make replica and contemporary frames and source original antique frames from an extensive stock, considering the date, style and aesthetic. Please click here for more information regarding framing or email frames@thefineartsociety.com.

We offer advice and services relating to the conservation of all works of art and design. Please contact art@thefineartsociety.com with any enquiries.

We will arrange packing, shipping and storage of works acquired through us, domestically and internationally. We can also arrange for a professional hanging service for our clients across the UK, and advice on environmental care and insurance options.

With records dating back to our foundation in 1876, our archival holdings provide a major source of scholarly research on nineteenth- and twentieth-century British art. Our records and image library resources have assisted many exhibitions and publications, as well as artist catalogue raisonnés. Image licensing and research requests are reviewed on a case by case basis, and work undertaken may require payment. For more information please email art@thefineartsociety.com.
