John Byrne: Blurred Boundaries brings together furniture painted by the artist for his home with artworks by John and by those he admired. From Folk art to the Bloomsbury group, elevating functional objects from the home with designs and pictures has long drawn artists away from their easels. The painted oak leaf, a recurring motif of John’s, adorns the doors of a mid-century cabinet. Portraits of his companions, Thistle the house rabbit and Misha the dog, make appearances.  Our first floor gallery hosts a survey of 20th century paintings, decorative arts and furniture.

Our Edinburgh gallery is open Tuesdays to Fridays from 10am to 6pm, and Saturdays 11am-2pm. We are open on Mondays by appointment only.
