Andrew McIntosh Patrick: In Morocco
After 50 years at The Fine Art Society, Andrew retired to Morocco. He had purchased a plot of land in Taroudant in southwestern Morocco and commissioned his architect nephew to design a house, to be called Dar Patrick. In anticipation of his move he sold most of his extensive collection of paintings and decorative arts through The Fine Art Society. However, a few pieces followed him, such as the Emily Young torsos that sat either side of his fireplace and the Christopher Dresser scallop shell vases that many will remember from his numerous dinners and house parties. The blank canvas that Dar Patrick presented was a gift for a man who was a collector by inclination and whose taste was for maximalism. Over the years, he filled the many rooms with textiles, rugs, metalware and – not least – a range of camel-themed curiosities.
A selected group of work recreating Dar Patrick will be on show and for sale in our first-floor gallery throughout August.
