For those who missed out on our exhibition of Hylton Nel ceramics in June, we are pleased to present a small collection of classic plates and dishes from a discerning private collection . This group of archival works is indicative of Hylton's idiosyncratic visual vocabulary of wit, whimsy, titillation and, best of all, cats!
Amongst this offering is a collection of blue plates from the 1990s, when The Fine Art Society first began to exhibit Hylton's work. His blue and white ware disrupts the centuries' old traditions of Dutch Delftware, and Chinese blue and white porcelain, injecting his hand-painted designs with highly charged and playful imagery.
